Ikorodu, Lagos, April 22, 2025 — Today marked a pivotal moment in youth empowerment and violence prevention as the Boys Mentoring Advocacy Network (BMAN) officially launched the Peace Pledge for Boys Campaign at the BMAN Centre in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Amidst an atmosphere charged with energy, hope, and a spirit of unity, the pioneering boys gathered to take the historic Peace Pledge: “I will strive to listen first, stay calm, and respect others. Today I choose peace.” This simple yet profound commitment signals a new era of redefining masculinity—centering compassion, empathy, and respect.
The event featured inspiring remarks from BMAN Founder, Ola Akinwe, who reminded participants, “Peace begins with our boys. Today, we plant seeds for a kinder world.” He emphasized the vital role of young men in breaking cycles of violence and building harmonious communities.
Interactive workshops on conflict resolution and emotional intelligence provided practical tools to help boys navigate conflicts constructively, fostering honest conversation, self-awareness, and mutual respect. The highlight of the day came as boys signed the Peace Pledge, their faces radiating determination and pride as they committed to the cause.
Looking ahead, BMAN announced the next steps for the campaign. Monthly mentorship circles, guided by BMAN Peace Ambassadors, will support ongoing personal growth and peer leadership. The initiative has set an ambitious goal: to train 222 boys on peace-building strategies and expand the Peace Pledge campaign to 22 communities across Lagos by December 2025.
BMAN is calling on the public to join or support the movement. “I pledge peace!” is more than a slogan—it’s a call to action. Supporters can donate to help create a future where every boy chooses empathy over violence.
