Children with vision impairment have poorer educational outcomes and are more likely to be excluded from schools. Severe vision loss or blindness can mean that some parts of a child’s development and learning will be slower than other children. It affects physical health by increasing risk of falls and quality of life.The societal stigma, the lack of emotional support, limited accessibility to activities and information are factors leading kids with low vision to loneliness and social isolation.

Journal of Ophthalmology & Clinical Research reveals that “Most causes of childhood blindness found in children at National Eye Centre, Kaduna, Nigeria are preventable. A comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach comprising of eye examination at birth, children eye screening and early vaccination for infectious diseases, is warranted.”
