Underwear for
Needy Boys in
Africa
Underwear is the most needed items of all clothing. Many boys especially those from low income parents are deprived of underwear and lots of them wear worn and torn undies. Hardly would you find children from needy homes in Africa having more than one or two underwear and had to wear for two or three days and wash overnight to wear again the following day. We’re fundraising to buy new boxers at wholesale and distribute to needy boys to boost their self-esteem and promote good underwear hygiene.
Challenge
Most boys in Africa put on underwear that are torn and have so many holes. Underwear poverty affects self esteem and causes inferiority complex in boys. Not changing their underwear regularly often causes an embarrassing odour and allows microbes and other bacteria to accumulate and fester. Poor underwear hygiene can cause health problems ranging from skin diseases like scabies, fungal infections, bacterial sores and blisters, and viral infections like herpes or protozoal infection.
Solution
Promote good underwear hygiene by providing new boxers made of cotton, organize Underwear Hygiene Seminars and Pep-talks at school and community level on keeping the intimate area tidy, preserved, and increase the efforts of ensuring and maintaining the well-being and health of the pubic area. We will provide 5 new underwear boxers to a boy from a needy family. The distribution shall consider preadolescent and teenage boys especially those living in rural communities.
Long-Term Impact
Just like brushing teeth every day to maintain oral hygiene, changing into a clean pair of underwear every single day is equally necessary to maintain good underwear hygiene. It helps to boost self-esteem and confidence. Clean underwear is critical for a person’s physical and emotional well-being. A clean pair of underwear is more than a physical necessity – it can provide the recipient with a rejuvenated sense of dignity and self-worth. What gift could be more meaningful?
